Outdoor & Pool Tiles
Our outdoor range includes porcelain tiles in an external finish, 20mm pavers and copings, and glass pool mosaics for patios, pool surrounds, alfresco areas and paths. For outdoor areas that get wet we recommend a P4 or P5 slip rating, and you can compare these tiles in person at our Underwood showroom.

Which slip rating do I need outside?
Choose a P4 or P5 tile for outdoor areas that get wet, such as pool surrounds, uncovered patios, paths and ramps. Slip ratings (P0 to P5) come from the Australian wet pendulum test in AS 4586; the higher the number, the more grip when wet. Our guide to slip resistant outdoor tiles explains the ratings, and creative uses for outdoor tiles has ideas for patios, steps and pool areas.
Questions about outdoor tiles
What tiles are best for outdoor areas?
Porcelain tiles with an external finish and a P4 or P5 slip rating suit most outdoor areas. Porcelain is dense, handles Queensland sun and rain, and needs less upkeep than natural stone.
What slip rating do pool surrounds need?
Pool surrounds and other wet barefoot areas need a P4 or P5 tile. Our 20mm pavers and copings are rated P4 and P5.
What is the difference between a paver and a coping tile?
A paver is a thick (20mm) tile laid on the ground, often on sand, gravel or pedestals. A coping tile finishes the edge of a pool or step, often with a rounded (bullnose) front edge.
Can I use the same tile inside and outside?
Yes, some ranges come in an indoor finish and an external finish, such as Robusta, Galaxy and Stone Arte, so the look can run from the living room to the patio. Use the external finish outside.
Can you use indoor tiles outside?
Only if the tile is rated for it. Indoor matt or polished tiles usually have a lower slip rating, which is too slippery for wet outdoor areas.
How much tile do I need for my patio?
Measure the area and add extra for cuts and wastage. Our tile calculator gives you an estimate before you visit.
